One of the most common questions we get is “Why can’t my kid just play tennis in their running shoes?”

First, and most important, tennis shoes provide lateral support. Running shoes are designed for forward and backward movement, while tennis shoes are designed for side-to-side (lateral) movement. Even if your child is just starting tennis, a running shoe will not protect them as they run side-to-side on the court. Lateral support is essential to prevent ankle rolling, among other injuries.

In addition, all tennis shoes come equipped with non-marking soles – a requirement at most tennis clubs.

Junior shoes range from size 10.5 K – 7. They range from recreational to high performance oriented. Recreational shoes are softer, more flexible and provide out-of-the-box comfort. High performance shoes are stiffer, more durable and laterally supportive shoes. As well, court-specific shoes are also available (e.g. clay or hard court).
